Local body elections
Sir, —I have completed my postal ballot for the local body elections. Is there anything to stop me filling in the ballot paper of a member of my family who is overseas on a brief business tip? — Yours, etc., C. RAE. October 5, 1986.
[(l)Your conscience; (2) the possibility that a special vote has been arranged by an absent elector; (3) a two-year prison sentence if you are found to have voted, more than once; (4) a sixmonth sentence for having in your possession a voting paper not your own; (5) the possibility that a returning officer, acquainted with the absence of the voter, will seek to confirm the voting; (6) the chance that the elector, on return, will require to possess the voting paper.— Editor.]
