Cashmere tower
Sir,—We wish to express our disappointment at the compromise reached over the extension of the microwave station on Cashmere Hills and our dissatisfaction at the lack of support by the Heathcote County Council for 7
the 300-plus ratepayers who signed a petition opposing the extension on the grounds of environmental pollution and the creation of a possible health hazard for nearby residents. We trust ratepayers who felt slighted at the way the petition was ignored will exercise their democratic right to unseat those responsible. The petitioners will not be alone in their objections when the 100 ft tower, hung with 11 antennae, is built. The people of Christchurch will also regret this new excrescence on the edge of our best hillside park. Far from screening the tower, the proposed landscaping will be as effective as a pair of ankle socks on a naked giant. — Yours, etc.,
J. BARRER, D. R. M. BEARDSLEY, E. T. BEARDSLEY. October 6, 1986.
