Extradition sought
NZPA-Reuter London British police were yesterday ordered to arrest 26 Liverpool soccer club supporters following the Brussels Heysel stadium riot in which 39 people died. There will be a hearing at London’s Bow Street court- on Monday to decide whether the fans can be extradited. Arrest warrants alleging manslaughter were issued yesterday. Scores of Liverpool fans ran riot at the stadium before the 1985 European Cup final
against the Italian club Juventus. Victims of the disaster — most of them Juventus supporters — died in the panic stampede that followed. Many of the accused had been identified through television pictures of the disaster since which English teams have been barred from European competition. Belgian police want the 26 fans to stand trial but legal sources speculate that before extradition is granted, the case could go to the High Court.
