Injury forces out Gibb
Glen Gibb, the 1985 Kiwi scrum-half, will be missing from the Runanga (West Coast) rugby league team when it challenges Hornby for the Thacker Shield at the Addington Show Grounds on Saturday. An injury suffered in the last few minutes of Runanga’s 50-22 win over Marist at Greymouth last Sunday has cost Runanga the services of Gibb. His place behind the Runanga pack has been taken by
David Steegh. The absence of Gibb prevents a continuation of the keen rivalry between him and Brendon Tuuta, of Hornby, who was preferred as South Island’s scrum-half this season. Neither survived the full 80 minutes in the Thacker shield match last year. Tuuta was sent off and Gibb was assisted off after they came into contact in an off-the-ball incident.
