South dominates English Cup

Four southern league clubs will contest the semifinals of the English Cup soccer knockout competition, after quarter-final matches played yesterday. The biggest win of the round was achieved by New Brighton, which walloped Bays United, 19-0. Greg Clark, who came on at halftime, scored five times, the mid-fielder, Andy Daffin, got four goals, Paul Stanley scored three times, Dion Muir and Johan Schoute scored two each, Andrew Eastgate and Phil Lawton got one apiece and the goal-

keeper, David van Voorst, scored from a penalty. Brighton will meet KLM Cashmere in one semi-final. Cashmere beat Christchurch Brother United by default. United withdrew from the competition because of a clash with a Rothmans

League match. The final is also set down to clash with another national league game when United, the defending Cup holder, will be playing out of Christchurch. The other semi-final will be between Nomads United

and Classique Technical. Nomads beat Burndale United, 4-2, after extra time. The score was 2-2 after 90 minutes. Bruce Scott, Harry Smits, Steve Ditfort and Kees Doornenbal scored for Nomads. Technical easily accounted for Burwood, 6-0. Terry Neville scored two penalties, Adam Riley also got two goals, with the others coming from Andrew Rutledge and Paul Nicholls.

The semi-finals are expected to be played tomorrow evening at English Park.
