Charge of murder admitted
PA Palmerston North Reihana Mathew Chase, aged 31, a carpenter, pleaded guilty to the murder Joanne Te Aroha Warren when he appeared in the District Court at Palmerston North on Thursday.
He was remanded to the High Court in Wellington for sentence on September 3. Chase was accused of the murder of Miss Warren, aged 21, in her home on June 21. Yesterday was the second day of an expected four-day prelim-
inary hearing. He stood impassively in the dock, handcuffed, as he admitted killing Miss Warren. Earlier, the evidence of remaining witnesses was handed in in statement form by the prosecutor, Mr Hugh Williams, with the consent of defence counsel, Mr Marcus Poole. Mr Poole said he had no submission to make or evidence to call. Chase pleaded guilty after the Court found there was a case to answer.
