Hockey tournament

Two well struck penalty corners by Ben Herbert in the second 7*£ minute period of extra time enabled Kent Prier Redcliffs to beat Albany (Dunedin), 2-1, in their second round match in

the Adidas national inter-club knockout hockey competition yesterday. Neither team was able to score in the 70 minutes of ordinary time on a slushy ground at Barnett Park. Albany scored first from a penalty corner in the first half of extra-time and the

goal provided a spur to Redcliffs. Two minutes into the second half Herbert crashed home his first penalty corner and three minutes later scored the second.

Albany fought back strongly in the last couple of minutes but the Redcliffs defence remained unruffled. The win was some consolation for Redcliffs which was knocked out of the competition in the first round last year in extra-time by a Dunedin team.
