Ryan O’Neal’s son charged
NZPA-AP Annapolis The son of the actor, Ryan O’Neal, was indicted yesterday on six counts, including boat manslaughter, for the death of the son of the film director, Francis Ford Coppola. Griffin O’Neal, aged 21, also was charged with reckless driving and, negligent driving of a boat O'Neal and. Gian-Carlo . Coppola, aged 23, were using a rented runabout on the crowded South River near Annapolis on the May 25 Memorial Day
holiday when their boat hit a tow-rope connecting two other boats. Mr Coppola was thrown to the deck of the boat, suffering fatal head, 'injuries. O’Neal suffered minor Injuries. . . ' An autopsy on Mr Cop? pola showed ; his, ;blood alcohol content to .be 0.15 per cent, the equivalent ot about five drinkis. 'lt is illegal under Maryland law to use a boat with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 per cent or above.
