Thompson stays silent
The Olympic decathlon champion, Daly Thompson (England), is refusing all press interviews until after his event
Thompson, who will be seeking his third successive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the decathlon, has requested a period of rest and quiet
leading up to the Games. Journalists are now resigned to the fact that they might not be able to talk to Thompson at all. At previous Games, he has disappeared after winning his event and has refused to attend the usual post-competition press conference.
