Frustrating pool checks

NZPA staff correspondent Edinburgh

New Zealand swimmers were yesterday frustrated by the drawn-out pool security checks which have angered other teams.

With just one day before the first of the Commonwealth Games heats begin, the New Zealand team was forced to wait for 40 minutes while

guards combed the venue. Two days ago the Canadian team was kept outside for 30 minutes because of a security staff shortage.

The New Zealand manager, Bill Matson, said there was "unanimous frustration” among team managers. The swimmers were not getting enough time in the water.
