Wedding strike averted
NZPA-Reuter Edinburgh
Commonwealth Games organisers averted a strike over the Royal wedding on Wednesday, by installing televisions for seamstresses in the competitors’ village. Women working in the village’s shopping mall light-heartedly suggested they might miss work and stay at home to watch the wedding in London of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. But organisers moved
fast to resolve the matter and the village commandant, Cameron Cochrane, said: “The televisions are in and the women are happy. They are here at full strength.”
Mr Cochrane also said the organisers had sent a message to the royal couple. It read: “All present at the 13th Commonwealth Games village in Edinburgh send warm congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of your marriage today.”
