Christchurch’s chamber choir, the Jubilate Singers, will present a recital of early music on July 30. Entitled “A European Pageant,” the programme features a selection of sixteenth and seventeenth century five-voice madrigals, choral and organ works from England, Italy and Germany. One of the main works is the five part Mass of William Byrd. A quartet of Dinah Allison, Sarah Harris, Julie Prinsep,
Mark Dunford and Ted Rhodes will perform groups of Italian and English madrigals. The organ will be played by, the choir’s conductor, Martin Setchell, who will be assisted in conducting by Richard Oswin. The choir will perform the same programme at a concert in Wellington soon. Next week’s concert will be at the St Albans Methodist Church in Merivale at 8 p.m.
