No sign of missing men
PA Wellington A search for two fishermen who disappeared in relatively calm waters off Wanganui at the week-end was abandoned last evening.
A search and rescue spokesman said the area where the boat was thought to have been was thoroughly searched twice.
The search had been called off because all possible avenues had been exhausted, the spokesman said.
There had been no sign of the boat or its crew.
A professional fisherman, Lewis John Luxford, aged 47, and his crewman, Bruce Edmond Wilson, aged 32, were aboard the boat.
They were reported missing late on Saturday when they failed to return from a day’s fishing off the Manawatu-Wanganui coast.
