Washdyke apprentice suspended

Gary Taylor, the Washdyke apprentice, was suspended for six riding days until August 2 at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting on Monday. Taylor received the penalty from the judicial committee for striking a rival horse on the head with the whip in the concluding stages of the Second Advertisers Handicap. Taylor rode Mount Pleasant, which finished third in the race. He was found to have struck Golden Time, which finished fourth.

The incident was observed by the stipendiary

steward viewing a film after the payout of dividends had been authorised. The Riccarton jockey, Chris Johnson, was suspended for one day until June 24 at an adjourned inquiry on Monday. Johnson was found guilty of careless riding at the Oamaru meeting on May 24. Johnson, riding Nicolai Bay, was found to have crowded Grey Corvette and caused Lady Balidon to fall, and bring down Red Terne. Johnson was not riding

at Oamaru, due to a suspension. .
