Five group races added to list
Five races have been added to the list of group classification feature events to be run during the 1986-87 trotting season. Originally the Trotting Conference had 76 races on the list, but, at the request of the Racing Authority, the number was reduced to 60 for the 1985-86 season. The Fay Richwhite N.Z. Sires’ Stakes Final, run by the Metropolitan Club, is a newcomer to the Group One list. This season the mile race for three-year-olds carried a stake of $125,000. The N.Z. Two-year-old Trotting Stakes, run by
the Canterbury Park Club, has been elevated from Group Three to Group Two. Newcomers to the Group Three list are The Curtin’s Farm N.Z. Futurity Stakes, for two-year-olds, run by the Rotorua Club; The Lion Brown Final, run by the Canterbury Park Club, and the Speights Waikouaiti Stakes, both for three-year-olds; and the Cambridge Trotting Stakes, for three-year-olds, run by the Cambridge Club. All but the Lion Brown Three-year-old Final were
deleted from the list for this season and they have now been reinstated.
