Dancer in balance
Barbara Doherty will dance two concerts of mime, dance and comedy at the Southern Ballet Theatre this week. “Accidents and Balance II” is the title of the programme which Ms Doherty has toured around the South Island. She will present the programme on June 21 and 22 at 8 p.m.
Ms Doherty’s style of dance concentrates on rhythmic repetition and muscular tension. Barbara Doherty graduated from the University of Utah where she studied several dance techniques. She has performed with dance troupes in Europe, the United States and Australia.
She was recently one of the guest choreographers with the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s “New Moves” programme and has taught at Auckland University and Limbs Dance Company. The two Christchurch performances are an addition to her month-long tour of the South Island.
