Aust. six to play
Closer musical relationships with Australia is the long-standing arrangement between the Music Federation of New Zealand and its collegiate organisation, Musica Viva Australia, for the exchange between the two countries of musical groups.
Assisted by funding from the Australia-New Zealand Foundation and the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, the Australia Ensemble will visit Christ-
church on Monday to give a concert as part of a five-concert series in New Zealand. This group of six comprising violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, and piano will present a programme which includes works by Beethoven, Brahms and the contemporary English composer, Nicholas Maw.
The Australia Ensemble is resident at the University of New South Wales
in Sydney. Five members of the group are Australians; the sixth pianist David Bollard is a New Zealander, bom in Wellington but educated in Auckland. The Christchurch concert by the Australia Ensemble will be held in James Hay Theatre as part of Music Federation Christchurch 1986 concert series. The concert will be open to the public as well as to subscribers to the series.
