U.S. children sing
The Young Singers of Missouri are a chorus of children aged from six to 15. They come from within a radius of 65 miles of St Louis and will sing the first concert of their New Zealand tour in Christchurch on Saturday. The choir programme includes 125 children who perform in hundreds of concerts. In 1981 the Young
Singers were made Friendship Ambassadors to Romania and performed a special Christmas message broadcast. The touring chorus has 35 members who represent an average of five years touring experience. Their repertoire includes songs in many languages.
They Include songs that feature American folk dances, contemporary
dances, and the chorus’ own fiddlers and flautists. The director, Leona Greenlaw, founded the Young Singers in 1975. They will include in their New Zealand concerts music by J. S. Bach, Borri, Greenlaw, Schubert, Debussy, Mahler, Dvorak, Finzi, Perichetti, and Copland. Their Christchurch concert will be at 8 p.m. in the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church.
