Cummings to train Lomondy
NZPA-AAP Sydney "Bart” Cummings yesterday confirmed reports he would take over the training of the New Zealand stayer, Lomondy, but denied that the five-year-old was certain to take his place in the Adelaide Cup field next month. “He’s first got to justify a run in the cup by turning on a good performance in the $40,000 West End Export Stakes (2400 m at Morphettville on May 10 before we decide on a run in the Adelaide Cup,” Cummings said. The $170,000 Jubilee 150 West End Adelaide Cup (3200 m will be run at Morphettville nine days later. Lomondy, which has won seven provincial handicaps in New Zealand, will have his last New Zealand race in the Kelly Garland Real Estate Handicap (2200 m on Friday on his home track at Awapuni, where he has been trained by Noel Eales. By the top New Zealand sire, Noble Bijou, from the high-class racemare, Loma Lass, Lomondy is due to arrive in Sydney next Tuesday. Cummings was impressed with Lomondy when he saw the five-year-old gelding during his inspection of yearlings in New Zealand last August before the January round of yearling sales.
