Fullbore champ. of champions

John Fleming (Ashburton Rifle Club) won the annual quest to find the champion-of-champions for fullbore shooting in Canterbury after competition at West Melton on Saturday. The title was shot for over 300, 500 and 600 yd in fine easterly conditions. Contestants in the over 300 yd event shot on experimental target facings giving a larger aiming mark but smaller scoring rings. Geoff Smith (Malvern), with 50.6, scored the only possible at this range, the average score being 47. At 500 yd there were three possibles, scored by John Whiteman (Sydenham), 50.7, Barry Hunt (Ashburton), 50.6, and John Fleming (Ashburton), 50.5.
