Ellesmere College top XV

Ellesmere College was named the top team at the annual Trusteebank Canterbury College rugby day at Lincoln College yesterday. Fourteen schools contested the tournament with the top team decided not on the basis of games won, but rather on attacking spirit, discipline and sportsmanship and 15man involvements. Points were awarded by the referees. Ellesmere College, coached by Mr H. Romano, received the Trusteebank Canterbury Cup and an Adidas rugby ball. Rugby balls also went to the runner-up, Pleasant Point High School (coached by C. Callow) and the most honest trier, Cheviot High School (S. Alps). The 3ZB goalkicking cup went to Grant Beckett (Cheviot H.S.) and Jason Hassall (Hawarden District High School) won the lineout throwing contest. The girls from Lincoln High School were adjudged the best cheerleaders.
