Slim lead in badminton

An 8-0 whitewash of South Brighton enabled Railway to take a one-point lead in the A grade inter-club badminton competition, after three rounds last week. Railway, the defending champion, now bolstered by the services of the Wellington division one player, Mark Barry, for the rest of the season, was much too strong, dropping only one game in the contest. The leader after two rounds, Bryndwr-Y.M.C.A., struggled to overcome Christchurch I. It would probably have been beaten if the Christchurch player, John Fletcher, had not suffered a back injury after beating Mark Chambers in the top men’s singles match. Bryndwr won two matches by default to force a countback on points, which revealed it to be well ahead.
