The Wool Board was again required to support the market, strongly during a combined auction of Invercargill and Timaru wool in Christchurch yesterday. The board bid on 10,433 bales, or 33.1 per cent of the offering, and had 5458 bales, or 17.3 per cent sold or passed to it, according to the official report. Its activity was concentrated on crossbred fleece and lambs’ wool.

The competition was well spread with a restricted tone. Eastern Europe was the main buyer, supported by Western Europe, New Zealand mills and the Far East.

Compared with the Dunedin sale, on February 21, Halfbred fleece and skirtings quotations were un-

changed on a minimal quantity offered. Also compared with Dunedin, better style medium crossbred (35 micron) was firm, poorer style was in buyers’ favour, strong crossbred (37 micron) in buyers’ favour, second-shear unchanged, better style crossbred lambs’ wool in sellers’ favour, poorer style par to minus 2.5 per cent, necks and bellies down 5 per cent, pieces firm, better style oddments firm and poorer style down 6 per cent Following is the official range of Clean auction prices.— Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Good to 495, good average to 465, poor to 452. Strong crossbred, 37 micron: Good to 480, good average to 462, poor to 452. '
