Four charges of rape
A man who faced four charges of rape was remanded in custody for a week after Judge Palmer •was told that he had failed to report to the police, as part of the conditions of his bail, on three occasions this month.
Thomas Boy Hohapata, aged 30, a painter (Mr G. N. Langham), had earlier been granted ball of $2500 with two sureties of the same amount.
He had been ordered to report daily to the
police. Because Hohapata disputed the number of times Detective Sergeant Norman Scott had said he failed to report to the police, the Judge asked the police to produce evidence about this matter at the defendant’s next ap-
pearance in court. Hohapata faces charges of burglary and unlawfully taking a vehicle in addition to charges of rape of two young women
in a Christchurch house late last year.
