Hawke’s Bay has win in sight
PA Nelson Hawke’s Bay has victory well within its sights as it goes into the final day of its Übix Cup cricket challenge against Nelson at Trafalgar Park today. With the match able to be determined on a first innings result, Hawke’s Bay requires 76 more runs to pass Nelson’s first innings total of 366 with six wickets in hand. The Hawke’s Bay captain, Scott Briasco, was still at the crease /unbeaten on 140 when Hawke’s Bay ended the second day at 291 for four. Nelson achieved a vital breakthrough with
the last ball before stumps when Peter Dailey was caught behind for 44. Nelson elected to bat after winning the toss on Saturday. The highlight of its innings was a magnificent unbeaten 105 by the captain, Wayne Hodgson. Nelson will be rueing three missed chances off Briasco at 11, 35 and 47, with the Englishman, Nick Speak, having earlier scored a fine 80. Briasco and Dailey combined in a 106 run fourth wicket partnership.
