Wool prices ease at combined sale
PA Wellington Prices dropped at the combined Wellmgton/Wanganui wool sale yesterday. The market indicator was 346 c a kilogram for greasy wool and 465 c for clean.
A good tone held throughout the sale, with general widespread interest, according to the official report. Main buyers were Eastern Europe, the Continent, New Zealand carpet mills and New Zealand merchant scourers, with some support from the Far East. The offering comprised 20,000 bales from Wanganui and 15,000 bales from Wellington. Some Wool Board activity was required to support the market, mainly in best-style fleece, the report said. Fleece of 33-34 microns was 2 per cent in buyers’ favour. Buyers of 35-37 micron wool favoured second-shear. Beststyle and poor-style fleece were inclined to be in buyers’ favour.
The report said bulky skirtings were down 2 per cent; second pieces and locks were also in buyers’ favour. Secondshear oddments were 5 per cent lower.
Best-style 28-29 micron first lambs’ wool held firm but other first lambs’ wool was in buyers’ favour. Prices for second lambs’ wool were down
about 2 per cent. The official range of clean-on-the-floor prices: Medium crossbred hogget, 34 micron, 110-115 mm: Good to 485; average to good 474 to 478; average 468 to 470. Crossbred fleece, 35 micron, 110-115 mm: Good 482 to 484; average to good 472 to 473; average 470 to 472. 37 micron, 110-115 mm: Good 484 to 488; average to good 472 to 473; average 469 to 471.
Second-shear fleece: 37 micron, 75/100 to 75/125mm: Good 475 to 477; average to good 464 to 468; average 452 to 462. 37 micron, 50/75 to 50/ 100 mm: Good to 475; average to good 449 to 458; average to 440.
Crossbred Pieces: 33 micron, 75/125mm: Average to poor 402 to 412. Second-shear bellies and pieces: 35 micron, 50/100 to 75/ 100 mm: Average to poor 396 to 400; poor 392 to 398; 35 micron, 25/75 to 50/75mm: Average to poor 374 to 376. Crossbred locks and second pieces: 35 micron, 25/75mm: Average to poor 350 to 352. First lambs: 28 micron, 25/ 75 to 50/75mm: Good to 493; average to 491; average to poor to 484.
