Under 16 girls lose
Canterbury reached the semi-finals of the New Zealand under 16 girls softball tournament in Hamilton yesterday before losing at that stage to the eventual champion, Auckland, 10-0. The Auckland pitcher pitched a shut-out game. Earlier in the day Canterbury qualified for the last four by beating Waikato, 112.
Canterbury had to settle for fourth when losing its final match to Southland, 65. Two booming home runs brought in three runners for Southland in the sixth innings and that proved the turning point of the match.
