Royal Garden Party
Sir,—l was interested to read in “The Press” of December 27 that “For the first time, Christchurch people have been invited to apply to attend a Royal function in the city” — the Royal Garden Party in the Botanic Gardens. This is not correct, as my parents were among the 3500 guests at such a Garden Party held on January 20,1954, and great was the e&itement of all those people from’all walks of life,
who secured invitations in a ballot conducted by the Christchurch City Council. I still have that invitation, the admission card, and the dress my mother wore. I only hope the guests at the coming Garden Party have more than the merest glimpse of the Royal couple that my parents and many other disappointed citizens had. — Yours, etc., M. I. MANSON. January 13, 1986.
