Air catering talks start, break down
PA Auckland Talks to settle the Air New Zealand catering award resumed yesterday, but were adjourned after a shot time with differences unresolved. The award talks broke down in December and protest action by catering staff resulted in food supplies on some flights being restricted or cut off. The secretary of the Hotel Workers’ Union, Mr Rick Barker, said union officials walked out of yesterday’s talks because Air New Zealand management had indicated it was not prepared to change its posiAn Air New Zealand industrial relations official, Mr Henry de Silva, said the company went into the meeting willing to negotiate. He said the company would seek a quick resumption of the talks which were before a conciliator. Areas the parties disagree on include rates of pay and the use of casual labour.
