Surfing test series

PA Gisborne New Zealand will meet Australia in an international surfing test series, the country’s first, beginning in Gisborne next month. The New Zealand Surf Riders’ Association president, Wayne Spence, said yesterday the Australian team would comprise its top 12 amateur surfers.

It will compete with the New Zealand amateur team in a three-test series, starting on February 23. Round two will take place the next Wednesday in New Plymouth while the final will be surfed at Auckland’s Piha beach on March 1. The New Zealand team will be announced after the national championships at Piha next week.
