Laws maintains load after race
PA Wellington An Auckland yachtsman, Geoffrey Laws, maintained his load after the fourth race in the National Starl-ing-class Yachting Championships, sailed off Port Taranaki, yesterday. The 17-year-old from the Kohimarama club finished third in yesterday’s sole race in the afternoon. Laws, in his boat Tangaroa, has 11.7 points after the four races. Yesterday’s race was won by Scott Adam of Murray’s Bay in his boat Epic, ahead of clubmate Michael O’Reilly in Telstar. O’Reilly is second over all with 16.7 points, with Adam third on 21.7 points.
Adam, with two wins from his last two races, has closed sharply on the leading pair. The young sailors had to battle steep and choppy seas yesterday with the wind gusting from 16 to 20 knots. Ten yachts were forced to withdraw. Two races will be sailed today. Fourth race result: Scott Adam (Epic, Murray’s Bay) 1, Michael O’Reilly (Telstar, Murray’s Bay) 2, Geoffrey Laws (Tangaroa, Kohimarama) 3, James Broderick (Rockstar, Tamati) 4, Richard Kriletich (Shockwave, Bucklands Beach) 5. Points: Laws 11.7 points, 1; O’Reilly 16.7 points, 2; Adam 21.7 points, 3.
