Gardens kiosk

Sir,—People should be warned against taking elderly or infirm guests to a meal at the Botanic Gardens’ kiosk. There is nowhere to sit while you wait. It is understandable that you cannot expect to be seated immediately even if a table is booked and you are punctual. On fine days you might assist your guests to seats outside, dashing back at intervals to check. But on a wet day, as our party experienced recently, conditions Gpn be deplorable. The friendly of the staff is no compensation as you

see your distressed guests standing, jostled by the crowds pushing in out of the rain. Those responsible should build a glassed-in porch of complementary design and with simple seating where patrons may wait in comfort.—Yours, etc., H. A. CUTTEN. December 31, 1985.

[The southern region manager of Huntsbury Food Services, Ltd, Mr A. R. Vemel, replies: “As lessee of The Gardens Kiosk we take note of your comments. The Christchurch City Council owns the building and any alteration or improvement carried out by ourselves is subject to their approval. We agree that on days with inclement weather entry to the restaurant can be difficult, particularly if we are busy. New seating has been built by the council outside the kiosk, but is best suited to fine days. A meeting will be called with the Parks and Recreation Department to discuss the letter. Many thanks for the compliment to the staff.”]
