U.S. attitude to bombing deplored

PA Wellington The Leader of the Opposition, Mr McLay, has criticised the United States for failing to condemn the French sinking of the Rainbow Warrior as an act of international terrorism.

The French agents’ use of explosives which caused the sinking and a death was as reprehensible as Libyanbacked terrorism in other parts of the world, and the United States should have condemned it as such, he said.

Mr McLay made his remarks after a speech to the

Pacific and Asian Affairs Council in Hawaii, where he is holidaying with his wife. Mr McLay was also reSorted to have aimed some arbs at United States fishing interests, said a statement from his office. Quoting a local newspaper report, the office said Mr McLay had charged that American fishing boats plundered fisheries of smaller Pacific island States and caused much resentment.

Only within the last six months had the United States moved to resolve the problem, he said.
