Inaugural flight delayed
Greymouth reporter Poor weather yesterday prevented the introduction of the new trans-Alpine return air link between Greymouth and Christchurch. Coast Air’s inaugural flight using its de Havilland Twin Otter 20-seat aircraft, and carrying a party of guests, instead went on a scenic flight to Hokitika. They were to have attended a reception and
lunch in Christchurch. Before yesterday morning’s scenic flight, the aircraft was blessed by the parish priest of Greymouth, the Rev. Gerard Creagh. The company does not yet have authority to fly the Twin Otter on instrument flight rules and this would have been imperative yesterday because of bad weather.
