Prices down for Angora goats
Blenheim reporter A big crowd attended the first Marlborough all-breeds goat sale in the Awatere Valley yesterday. Angora prices were well down on those ruling a few months ago, and passings frequent. Good quality G 1 or G2 Angora does were passed in at between $2OOO and $3OOO. Top price of the day was $1950 for a G2 doe from the Coatbridge partnership of Northbank. This vendor also sold a G 1 two-tooth buck for $l9OO. Two G 1 bucks fetched $l5OO each for G. Barnett, Tua Marina, and Simon Chaffey, Kekerengu. A G2 doe offered on account of B. Marshall, of Grovetown, was passed in at $2500, a G2 doe from Longbend Angoras of Dillons Point was passed in at $l5OO, and four G2 does on account of Mount Pleasant Angoras of Picton were
passed in at $l6OO each. Four Mount Pleasant G2 does sold for $1250. Two G 4 does, said to be good examples of the breed, fetched $550 each. They were offered by Miss M. Fell, of Blenheim.
Feral and dairy goat sales were firm on recent prices. Two Saanen does on account of a Dalgety Crown client went for $2BO each, a British Alpine doe from R. H. Kett, of Koromiko, realised $4lO, and six Nubian does on account of M. J. Surgenor of Para, sold for $3OO each.
Eleven Saanen Angora cross does on account of L. Redwood sold for $370 each, 20 Feral does on account of H. Cooper fetched $260 each, and three Saanen does on account of Southwold Farm, of Wairau Valley, sold for $230 each. The sale was organised by the Marlborough Stock and Station Association.
