Gorman succeeds Ashe
NZPA-Reuter New York Tom Gorman, who played on three American Davis Cup teams in the 19705, has been officially named to succeed Arthur Ashe as captain of the U.S. team. Gorman, aged 39, said yesterday that one of his first objectives would be to
try to persuade John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors to rejoin the United States team. Neither McEnroe nor Connors played in the Davis Cup this year after refusing to sign good-conduct pledges mandated by the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) last January.
