Action on rates
Sir,—l wish to object to the scare tactics your paper is indulging in by headlining on December 10 the dreadful things we of the Rates Action might face because we had the courage and determina-, tion to stand up to the Christchurch' City Council. We are fully aware of the implications of our stand. Wewithheld a small part of bur rates as a protest against the stiff hikes imposed by the above body. Even with the protest amounts deducted many of us are paying two to three times the average — some more. This means a forced charity of subsidising ratepayers in other parts of the city — a situation many of us can ill afford. We do not appreciate outbursts such as yours when our continuing fight is' for a fair deal for every ratepayer in this city, with a more efficient council.—Yours, etc.,
M. E. WALSH. December 10, 1985.
