Fluoridation
Sir,—Back in the twenties, an American satirist, H. L. Mencken, wrote that “any American who can count up to 10... is forced, willynilly, into a small aristocracy of Intellect." Just over half of the Waimairi councillors apparently cannot count up to five. Twentythree thousand questionnaires were sent out in a recent survey: that means at least 46,000 possible replies. To a man, woman and child, the “antis” voted against' fluoride, and dredged up 8521 votes. This shows a strength of less than 20 per cent. As far as normal S’e are concerned, fluoridation low as an interest, and is not a preoccupation. “Antis,” swollen with the mists of false doctrine,
are only, too ready to shout and toss up their nightcaps and so give a false idea of their numbers and importance. They have Mrs Margaret Murray bluffed.—Yours, etc., J. DUGDALE. December 11, 1985.
