Big rowing week-end
The Avon and Canterbury rowing clubs will participate in the Marlborough rowing championships at Picton this week-end in the start to the build-up for the national championships next year. The Picton event is the first of the main regattas to be contested this season and pits the Avon premier crews against Wairau in what should be a close tussle. Canterbury will also have stiff competition from
Wairau in the lightweight sections. The regatta will also give some indication of how Avon and Canterbury have been progressing as it is the first time eithet* club has rowed against a club from outside Christchurch this season. Blenheim and Nelson teams will also be competing but Avon, Canterbury and Wairau are expected to dominate.
