Basketball surprises
The five-member executive of the Canterbury Basketball Association will have four new faces for the new season. In a surprise move at this week’s annual meeting, long-serving executive members, Messrs Maurey Reynolds and Bruce Martin, did not seek re-election while Mrs Tina Cook was the only other ‘executive member to retain her position. New executive members are Mesdames Margaret Cuttance, Dot Wearne and Bernadette Daly, and Mr Warwick Hobbs.
A move to enter a Canterbury team in the national men’s second division competition next season is unlikely to go-ahead. The meeting felt a Canterbury B team would greatly reduce the standard of club competitions and the meeting preferred entering a team in the national under 23 tournament.
Canterbury has failed to get a team in the women’s first division league for next season and it was suggested that an overseas player .be recruited
