Singapore air link

Sir, — It is pleasing to read that Singapore Airlines wishes to make direct flights to Christchurch. Singapore is the tourist centre of Asia, and direct flights will bring many visitors to our city, laden with foreign exchange. The South Island with its mountains and skifields, has much to offer. Perhaps this extra tourist trade could make our ski fields financially economic. With horticulture increasing in importance every year, these flights could return to Asia laden with our produce. Let us hope that our airport authority, members of Parliament and the Chamber of Commerce keep pressure on the bureaucrats until permission is granted. — Yours, etc., ALAN FREEMAN. December 1, 1985.
