Big Soviet team
NZPA Leningrad The Soviet Union’s biggest team of scientists and experts will work in Antarctica this summer, says Professor Evgeny Korotkevich, head of the Soviet Antarctic programme. Novosti press agency quotes him as saying this year’s Soviet expedition is “unprecedently” large and consists of more than 666 researchers, including scientists from East Germany, Cuba, and other countries. The Soviet team intends to continue the drilling programme of the western Antarctic to study its geological structure as well as ocean exploration in the Pacific sector, Professor Korotkevich says.
