The biggest coal shipment from Lyttelton left for Japan yesterday in the bulk carrier Beauteous. The shipment of 56,244 tonnes of Buller coking coal beats the record of 48,660 tonnes set in August. The shipment also was carried in the Beauteous. Yesterday’s shipment brings the amount of coal exported from Lyttelton this year to 318,168 tonnes. Two more shipments of 35,000 tonnes and 17,000 tonnes are planned for this month, making 1985 a record year for coal exports from Lyttelton. The 30,810-ton Beauteous took five days to load the latest shipment, at a rate of 561 tonnes an hour. The usual coal loading rate is about 535 tonnes an hour.
