Caution on lamb sales in E.E.C.

Wellington reporter The Meat Board and meat companies are well aware of the need to act responsibly in selling sheepmeats overseas in markets such as the E.E.C., and of the benefits of doing this, says the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle. No proposals on sales methods to prevent dumping of lamb on European markets have been put by Mr Moyle. The meat marketing environment would be more competitive in 1986 and meat exporters would seek maximum returns from overseas sales, he said. It would be necessary for the Meat Board to retain some control over marketing in some areas to overcome particular conditions, Mr Moyle said.

Discussions were continuing between the meat companies and the Meat Board on arrangements for next year, so it was too soon to say what would be arranged for the European market.
