Strike after lock-out

PA Auckland About 15 store workers employed at the Mazda car assembly plant in Auckland went on strike yesterday only hours after returning from a five-day lock-out. An organiser for the Northern Storepersons and Packers’ Union, Mr Bruce Fowler, said the management had done stocktaking during one of those days. “That is work normally done by our members,” he said. Mr Fowler said he would meet the striking workers today. Meanwhile, most of the 2000 workers at the four assembly plants in Auckland and one in Thames were back yesterday after the lock-out was lifted. Unions and employers have agreed to the basis on which the industry agreement is to be renegotiated.
