Country clubs to increase stakes
Increases in stakes will apply to the Methven, Ashburton and Banks Peninsula Trotting Clubs’ meetings to be held in December. The stake for the C 4 K.M. McTigue Seadcleaning Handicap at Methven on December 7 will be $5500, against $4lOO last year, while that for the National Bloodstock Methven Breeders’ Stakes has been increased by $l2OO to $4500. The race, with special conditions, will be run over 2600 m for fillies and mares assessed at from Cl to C 3.
The Ashburton Cup on December 26 will be worth $lO,OOO, this year, an increase of $lOOO. The stake for the main race for trotters, with a C 5 front will be worth $6OOO, an increase of $BOO, while the National Mutual Finance Champion Stakes will rise in value to $9500 from $B5OO. The stakes for minor
races at both Methven and Ashburton will be the same as those which applied at the club’s spring meetings in September. The Banks Peninsula club has applied increases across the board for its popular meeting on December 28. The C 5 D.B. Banks Peninsula Trotting Club will be worth $7OOO, an increase of $lOOO over last year. Maiden pacers and trotters will race for $4OOO,
an increase of $9OO over 1984, while Cl pacers will h race for $4300, an increase of $lOOO. The . stake for C2 pacers will be $4600, an increase of $lOOO, while the C 3 race will be worth $5OOO, an increase of $BOO. The C 4 pacers will race for $6OOO, an increase of $lOOO. The C2 trotters will thisyear race for $56-30. The total stakes at the Motukarara meeting will be $47,600, against $37,800.
