Heifers off to China
Two . hundred FriesianHolstein heifers will depart by chartered aircraft from Auckland today as the first part of a sale by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, to the People’s Republic of China. Pyne’s sold 400 heifers for $1 million after the signing in April of a protocol which opened the way for the export of breeding stock to China. The second consignment of 200 heifers will be sent to China next month. Pyne’s stud stock manager, Mr David Cassells, and a company director, Mr John Patterson, are in China to monitor the arrival of the stock. A Ministry of Agriculture veterinarian, Mr Mike Evans, will accompany the heifers on their 18nour flight by chartered Trans-American 747 Jumbo jet.
