Travis swamp

Sir, — It is of real concern that the Travis swamp is being destroyed. This habitat has in the past supported a wide variety of birds. I have been able to show pupils of North New Brighton School the following self-introduced birds — sparwinged plover, welcome swallow and white-faced heron, as well as pukeko, harrier hawks and various ducks. Already the birds are moving out as the machines move in and Barkers Road is now of no value as a bird-watching site. — Yours, etc.,

M. C. CULLEN. August 28, 1985.
