Stephens called in to golf side
PA Whangarei Geoff Stephens of Titirangi, has been called into the New Zealand golf team to replace the injured Terry Cochrane for the Nomura Cup international event at Adelaide on August 31. Stephens, aged 19, is the youngest player to join a senior New Zealand team since Walter Godfrey went to the United States when aged 18, in 1960.
The convener of the national selection panel, Goldie Wardell, announced Cochrane’s replacement on Friday.
Cochrane chipped a bone in his elbow while skiing on Mount Ruapehu.
Michael Barltrop, Brian Patterson, and Colin Taylor are the other team members.
