McCarroll top seed in table tennis
Grant McCarroll, the South Island champion, has been seeded fifteenth in the open men’s singles at the national table tennis championships, to be held at Timaru from August 28 to 31. The top seed will be the Australian, Gary Haberl, with the three top New Zealand players, Peter Jackson, Malcolm Temperley, and Barry Griffiths, filling the next three places. Jan Morris, of Canter-
bury, will defend her national women’s singles title from second seed this year. The top seed will be Christine Lee, of Auckland. Bodil Martinsson, the Swedish woman who is playing for Riccarton in this year’s
